PUTZ, FRAU

Installation / Möbius strip and video by Karina Pośpiech, recorded text by Barbara Kenneweg, Kunstraum Bethanien

Video duration 12 min. Text: Barbara Kenneweg

In Berlin, there are around 30,000 Polish cleaning women, most of whom lead a semi-legal shadow existence.

On the other hand, many working women in this country face an extremely difficult balancing act between motherhood, career, and household.

Employer and employee move within a system of interconnected vicious circles.

If you cut a Möbius strip lengthwise, you don't get two strips but a single one, twice as long and doubly twisted.

The Möbius strip becomes an image for the never-ending, ever-restarting cleaning and housework.

The narrative level is a personally and emotionally charged torrent of words that places contrasting and complementary life paths, conditions, and circumstances of working women in relation to each other.

Each text strip negates itself with every repetition.

The installation is an image-text machine to be explored by the visitor.

Karina Pośpiech's photo strip is as much a part of the "Möbius cleaning woman" as the acoustic text loops.
